I did not know how and where to start, when I was given charge of Unorganised Sector of Labour by Maharashtra INTUC, as I had always worked in the Organised Sector. During my survey of Unorganised Sector, I realized about the three basic needs of women in this sector - social, psychological and mainly financial security. Therefore we started SECOW, a project to empower women through self-employment. But at the time as even now such projects, however good, are not 'Union Activity', hence did not get any financial support. So we formed 'Majhi Maitrin Charitable Trust'. Keeping in mind the needs of the women, MMCT decided to focus on the following -
- Literate the poor women and organize them to pool their meager resources and use them for their own development.
- Give them training in various income-gathering activities.

If every mother can give three square meal and send her child to school, there is a high probability that the child will have an opportunity to enjoy normal life in society. Also, if women from lower economic strata will have access to some form of training for a vocation, she is bound to bring a child up in proper way. Together this may reduce crime in society. Since Majhi Maitrin is closely working for the upliftment of underprivileged women, I work with MMCT in what ever little way possible to contribute.
